"Tartu nightlife is great. Finding it shouldn't require a group chat, three Instagram stories, and a prayer."
Night Out Baltic is a real-time nightlife discovery web application built for students in Tartu, Estonia. The app solves a specific and validated problem: students have no reliable way to know whether a venue will be packed, dead, or the right vibe for their group before leaving home.
The Problem
Young people check an average of 2.9 sources before going out — Instagram stories, friends on WhatsApp, Google Maps — and still leave home without a confident answer.
- 85% have arrived at a dead or wrong-vibe venue
- 77% said they would use a real-time vibe app if one existed
- No existing tool solves this
Our Solution
Users open the app and see a live map of Tartu venues such as Moku, Pussirohukelder, and Illegaard. Each venue displays real-time crowd levels, vibe ratings, and event listings. Users can filter by time, area, and vibe, and contribute anonymous check-ins without creating an account. The entire experience is designed to answer one question in under three minutes: where should I go tonight?
Traction
- Validated through a survey of 39 Tartu students confirming the core problem
- 77% of surveyed students expressed clear intent to use the app
- Participated in UT Institute of Computer Science Student Project Contest 2026
- Live MVP available at nightoutbaltic.netlify.app
