Terms of Use

These terms of use describe the conditions for using the UniTartuCS Student Projects environment and explain how the University of Tartu Institute of Computer Science (hereinafter referred to as the Institute of Computer Science) processes the personal data of its users and all other data subjects in connection with the use of the University of Tartu Institute of Computer Science's UniTartuCS Student Projects environment.

To use the University of Tartu Institute of Computer Science's UniTartuCS Student Projects environment, you must agree to the following terms of use.

I. General

1.1.

The environment is a platform created by the Institute of Computer Science located at https://projects.cs.ut.ee.

1.2.

The administrator of the environment is the Institute of Computer Science, which provides the system for students to submit their projects.

1.3.

The users of the environment (hereinafter referred to as users) are individuals who have a University of Tartu user account (hereinafter referred to as an account).

1.4.

Use refers to the possibility of submitting projects in the environment at the Institute of Computer Science.

1.5.

The environment consists of a public view accessible to everyone without a user account, where one can view public information, and a restricted environment requiring login.

1.6.

The use of the logged-in environment is only possible through a personal and user-identifiable account. User authentication is possible with the University of Tartu username and password.

1.7.

The processing of personal data follows the University of Tartu’s data protection regulations.

1.8.

The controller of personal data is the University of Tartu, registry code 74001073, address Ülikooli 18, 50090 Tartu, email info@ut.ee.

II. Use of the UniTartuCS Student Projects Environment

2.1.

Access to project submission is granted through the University of Tartu user account, which is automatically created for all employees, students, external students, and visiting students. For more information on creating a user account, contact the university's computer help at arvutiabi@ut.ee.

2.2.

The environment can only be logged into with an active university user account.

2.3.

The user does not need to provide additional data to use the environment. Upon logging in, the user's first name, last name, and email address are transferred from the University of Tartu's central database.

2.4.

Information about the user (first name, last name, email address) is not stored in the environment's database and is kept in a temporary session on the server.

2.5.

The temporary session is deleted immediately after the user logs out of the environment. If the user does not log out, the session is automatically deleted within 7 days.

III. User Rights, Obligations, and Responsibilities

3.1.

Any activities that may harm the functioning of the system or are against the law are prohibited in the environment. The Institute of Computer Science has the right to restrict the user's access to the environment if prohibited activities are detected.

3.2.

Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to, overloading the environment with queries, adding unsafe/illegal content to the system, copyright infringement, attempting to access other users' accounts, or any other reproachable behavior or aiding in such behavior.

3.3.

The user must immediately report known or suspected security vulnerabilities and prohibited activities to the Institute of Computer Science.

3.4.

The user is responsible for the content of the materials uploaded by them to the environment.

IV. University Rights, Obligations, and Responsibilities

4.1.

The student projects submission service is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

4.2.

The Institute of Computer Science is obliged to ensure the proper roles and rights of users and to prevent unauthorized access to non-public materials.

4.3.

The UniTartuCS Student Projects environment is used exclusively over a secure connection (HTTPS).

4.4.

The UniTartuCS Student Projects environment is hosted on servers located in Estonia and managed by the University of Tartu's research computing center.

4.5.

The software of the UniTartuCS Student Projects environment's servers and database is continuously updated with the latest security patches.

4.6.

The environment is backed up weekly.

4.7.

The Institute of Computer Science provides user support related to the environment via email at ati.study@ut.ee.

4.8.

The Institute of Computer Science is not responsible for the operational failures of the UniTartuCS Student Projects environment caused by circumstances beyond the control of the Institute of Computer Science.

V. Personal Data Protection

5.1.

The Institute of Computer Science processes personal data as a controller only to enable the creation of user accounts and to organize teaching in accordance with the university's data protection conditions.

5.2.

For better and more efficient operation of the environment, cookies stored in the web browser are used. To use the environment, session cookies must be enabled, which manage login status, mode (light or dark), and language settings. Upon logging out of the environment, the respective cookie is automatically deleted from the web browser and the server.

5.3.

Personal data is disclosed in the environment:

5.3.1.

To the learner, who can only see their own personal data, which includes the first name, last name, and email.

5.3.2.

To the environment administrators, who see the submitted projects data and publish them.

5.3.3.

To other persons to the minimum extent necessary when projects data is published.

5.4.

The server log files of the environment, which contain the user's IP address, browser type and version, operating system, user activities, and data related to these activities, are stored for three years. The legal basis for collecting this data is legitimate interest. This information is necessary to monitor the functioning of the environment, identify problems and security vulnerabilities, and audit the environment.

5.5.

The Institute of Computer Science may process all personal data contained in the environment to provide user support.

VI. Amendments and Updates to the Terms of Use

The Institute of Computer Science reserves the right to amend and update these terms of use if deemed necessary or required by legislation. Users are advised to review the terms of use periodically to stay informed of any changes. Use of the environment after changes to the terms indicates that the user has read, understood, and agreed to the new version of the terms.
